Terms of Use
The short version
Finit is a paid app. You buy it through Apple's App Store (as a monthly or annual subscription or a one-time lifetime unlock), and the annual plan starts with a 7-day free trial so you can decide before any money changes hands. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings. Because the trial exists precisely so you can test everything first, we do not grant refunds ourselves. All payments are processed by Apple, refund requests go to Apple under Apple's terms, and none of this touches your statutory rights. How we treat your data is a separate document: the privacy policy.
The agreement
These terms apply to the finit iOS app and its companion surfaces (widgets, the Apple Watch app). Your license to use the app is Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA); these terms supplement it, and where the two conflict, Apple's EULA wins. The purchase itself is a transaction with Apple as the merchant of record: Apple sells you the app on our behalf and handles billing, receipts, and payment data. By using finit you accept these terms; if you do not, do not use the app. You need to be 16 or older to use finit and to buy it. We do not ask for your date of birth and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
What finit is and is not
Finit is a life dashboard: it shows your screen time against the finite time you actually have, using data you import yourself through Shortcuts you set up, processed on your device (see the privacy policy for exactly what stays where).
- It reflects, it does not advise. Finit is not a medical, psychological, or therapeutic product, and nothing it shows is health advice. If your relationship with your devices worries you, talk to a professional.
- Its numbers depend on your setup. Screen-time values come from Apple's Screen Time system via the Shortcuts automation you create. If the automation doesn't run, those days stay blank instead of being estimated. The app never invents values. Small deviations from the Screen Time figures in iOS Settings are normal and documented behavior of Apple's data.
- Life-expectancy figures are statistics, not predictions. The life-in-weeks views use published averages (or your own setting). They are perspective, not prophecy.
Prices, trial, and auto-renewal
- Current prices are shown in the app and on the App Store page in your local currency, before you confirm any purchase.
- The annual subscription includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. When the trial ends, the subscription price is charged automatically unless you cancelled at least 24 hours earlier. A trial is granted once; a lapsed and returning subscriber does not get a second one.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel them in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- The lifetime unlock is a one-time purchase: it permanently unlocks the app as it exists and evolves, for as long as finit is offered. It is not a subscription and nothing renews.
Refunds
The free trial is the test space: it exists so you can experience the full app and walk away without paying. For that reason we do not issue refunds ourselves. All payments are processed by Apple, and any refund request is made to Apple (via reportaproblem.apple.com) and decided by Apple under its media services terms. Your statutory rights remain untouched. That includes, for customers in the EU/EEA, the withdrawal rights that Apple implements at the point of sale, and any mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
Your data
Your data is yours. The screen-time records, your profile, and your life entries live on your device and in your private iCloud; we have no access to them and no account for you unless you opt into the social features. Everything about data is in the privacy policy, which is deliberately the more detailed document. These terms add nothing to it and take nothing from it.
If you use the social features
Signing in (email code, Sign in with Apple, or Google) and adding friends is optional. If you do:
- Choose a display name that is yours to use: not offensive, not impersonating someone else.
- Use the features as intended: friend requests to people who want them, shared weeks as the deliberate act they are. No harassment, no abuse, no attempts to break or overload the service.
- You can remove friends, withdraw shared weeks, sign out, or delete your account in the app at any time. Deletion removes everything server-side. We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these terms, and we will discontinue no account without reason.
Availability and changes to the app
The app is provided with care but without a guaranteed service level: features may be added, changed, or removed, and the optional online components (purchases, social features) may occasionally be unavailable. The local-first core keeps working regardless: your data does not depend on our servers. If a future version changes how data is handled, the privacy policy is updated before that version ships.
Warranty and liability
To the extent the law allows, finit is provided as-is: we do not warrant that it is free of errors or fits a particular purpose, and we are not liable for damages beyond what mandatory law imposes. Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent, gross negligence, or injury to life, body, or health, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law. Where you have warranty claims relating to the app itself, Apple's EULA governs the ones against Apple.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Swiss law. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rules and competent courts of your country of habitual residence remain available to you regardless.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the updated version is published here with a new effective date before it applies, and material changes are called out in the app's release notes. Continuing to use finit after the effective date means the updated terms apply.
