finit walks you through it in the app, step by step. About five minutes, once.

Requirements: iOS 26 or later, and Screen Time enabled on the iPhone (Settings → Screen Time → turn on "App & Website Activity").

By default the shortcuts read the device they run on: your iPhone. Apple can hand over the combined numbers of all your devices instead.

First, enable Settings → Screen Time → "Share Across Devices" on each device, signed in with the same Apple Account. Then edit both shortcuts in the Shortcuts app: "Finit Import" contains the "Get app and website activity" action twice, "Finit History" once. Set each one to "All Devices" and leave the rest as it is. Nothing needs to be installed on the iPad.

From the next run your days match Screen Time's "All Devices" view. The nightly history run rewrites the last four weeks with the combined totals on its own; run "Finit History" once by hand if you don't want to wait until tomorrow.

finit shows your day as of the last import; the Screen Time screen recalculates the moment you open it. Minutes spent since the last import simply haven't arrived yet. Opening finit imports them.

Check the device selector too: with "Share Across Devices" on, the Settings chart may include your iPad and Mac. Select your iPhone there before comparing, or switch the shortcuts to "All Devices" so finit counts the same thing.

Two smaller effects remain. Apple smooths its own display near the end of the day but hands apps the raw data, so small same-day deviations are normal. And finit imports apps only: website time is already part of the browser's app time, so the lists slice differently while the daily total matches.

To compare fairly, open finit once, select your iPhone in Settings, and look at a finished day like yesterday. Whole missing hours are a different thing: imports aren't running. finit's settings show the last run and what to fix.

Yes, through your own iCloud: install finit on the new phone, sign in to the same Apple ID, and the record syncs down.

Delete the app to remove everything on the device. Your synced records in iCloud can be removed in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, and delete finit's data there. If you used the optional friends features, delete your account in the app first (Settings → Account). That removes everything server-side, including all previously shared weeks.

No. The import carries app names and durations: which apps, for how long. Nothing else. finit never sees content, notifications, browsing history, or anything you typed.

The plan starts with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers: full app, your own data, no charge until day 8. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you pay nothing. A trial is granted once.

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → finit. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. The one-time lifetime unlock is not a subscription: nothing renews, nothing to cancel.

All payments run through Apple, so refund requests are decided by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com. We don't issue refunds ourselves. The free trial exists precisely so you can test everything before paying.

Both are fed by the iPhone and update when the import lands. They measure nothing themselves. If one looks stale, open finit on the iPhone once; it pushes a fresh snapshot to the Watch and the widgets. The Watch also refreshes itself the next time you open it.

Yes, with small Shortcuts automations that run "Finit Import" in the background, even while the iPhone is locked. The most useful one: Automation → App → pick the two or three apps you use most → "Is Closed" → "Run Immediately" → run "Finit Import". Whenever you leave one of those apps, finit imports your day so far.

Long sessions that never close (a movie, hours of navigation) are covered by "Time of Day" automations; iOS has no hourly trigger, so set a few across your waking hours. "Alarm → Is Stopped" and "Charger → Is Connected" work well too. More frequent isn't better: iOS suspends looping shortcuts, and widgets have a limited daily refresh budget. An unchanged day writes nothing, so these automations cost next to nothing in battery.
