Screen Time not working? Start here
Screen Time not working means four different problems wearing one coat: no data at all, numbers that look wrong, devices that won't sync, or limits that don't limit. Each has its own short path, and this page is the junction. Find your symptom, do the two-minute check, and follow the deeper link only if it survives.
No data, or the chart is empty#
First check the master switch: Settings → Screen Time. If it offers to turn App & Website Activity on, measuring was off, and the record starts once you enable it; nothing fills in retroactively. If measuring is on and today still shows nothing, restart the iPhone, the classic fix for a stalled counter. Charts that used to have data and suddenly don't are a different animal: the five causes of vanished Screen Time, from the rolling window to a new iPhone, are worth two minutes before any drastic step.
Numbers that look wrong#
Too high, doesn't match memory, or a day claiming 24 hours: these are usually the counting rules being honest in surprising ways, screen-on time, merged devices, an unsettled today, plus one real glitch, the session that never closed. The wrong-numbers page walks each cause and its fix; the restart plus app-update combination clears the genuine bug in most cases.
Devices not syncing#
If your iPhone, iPad and Mac won't agree on one total, the problem lives in Share Across Devices: same Apple Account everywhere, toggle on separately on every device, patience with the sync lag, and the sign-out-sign-in cycle when the switch won't hold. A greyed-out toggle on a child or managed device is by design, not a fault. The fix sequence, in order, is here.
Limits and Downtime not doing their job#
A limit that never fires, a blocked app that opens anyway, Downtime that doesn't dim anything: those failures have their own logic, usually a missing setting rather than a broken one, the block toggle, the passcode, the website loophole. The limits page takes them one by one. And if the limits work but you sail through them, that is not a bug either; that is the honest limit of soft walls, and the research on what actually restrains use is the better read.
छोटे जवाब#
Why is Screen Time not showing any data?
Either App & Website Activity is switched off, or the counter stalled. Turn the feature on in Settings under Screen Time, and restart the iPhone if today stays empty. Past days cannot be filled in afterwards.
Is there a way to reset Screen Time when it misbehaves?
The gentle reset is restarting the device. The hard reset is turning App & Website Activity off and on again, which also erases the stored history, so treat it as a last resort rather than a first step.
Why is Screen Time not working on my iPad?
The same checks apply per device: activity enabled, signed into the same Apple Account, and Share Across Devices switched on there too if you expect combined totals. Each device keeps its own switch, and one device left out breaks the merged picture.
Why did Screen Time stop counting mid-day?
Usually a stalled counter that a restart fixes. If it keeps happening around one specific app, update or reinstall that app; a session that fails to close is also how the famous 24-hour day happens.
Most Screen Time problems are two minutes of settings. The unfixable one is memory: even working perfectly, it deletes itself after about four weeks. That part we fix.
