Screen time widgets on iPhone: every way to keep the number in view
The whole point of measuring screen time is ruined if the number hides four taps deep in Settings. A widget fixes that: the total sits on your home screen, or better, on the lock screen you look at a hundred times a day. Here is what iOS gives you out of the box, where it stops, and how to go further.
The built-in widget#
iOS ships a Screen Time widget for the home screen. Touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen until the apps jiggle, tap the edit control, search for Screen Time, and place the small or medium size. It shows today's total and a small breakdown, and tapping it opens the Settings report. It is a fine start with two limits: it shows today only, and it lives on the home screen only.
The lock screen gap#
The screen you actually see all day is the lock screen, and iOS offers no Screen Time widget there. Touch and hold the lock screen, tap Customize, and browse the widget gallery under the clock: batteries, weather, calendars, but no screen-time number. If the honest total should meet you at the moment you pick the phone up, before you unlock into the feed, you need a third-party app that ships lock screen widgets.
What finit puts on both screens#
This is the part we build, so judge accordingly. finit ships widget families for both surfaces: home screen widgets with today's total and your recent days, and lock screen widgets that put the number right under the clock. Because finit keeps your history beyond Apple's four-week window, the widget number is backed by a record instead of a rolling memory, and there is a life-scale view for days when a daily total feels too small to matter.
When a widget misbehaves#
Two honest notes for any screen-time widget, ours included. First, iOS budgets how often widgets refresh, so a widget can trail the live number by a little; it catches up on its own, and opening the app refreshes it. Second, a widget that seems frozen usually just needs to be removed and added again, which forces iOS to rebuild it. If the number is wrong rather than stale, that's a different story: here is why Screen Time numbers look wrong.
Jawapan ringkasnya#
Does the iPhone have a Screen Time widget?
Yes, for the home screen: touch and hold the home screen, tap the edit control, and add the Screen Time widget in small or medium. It shows today's total and opens the full report when tapped.
Can I put screen time on my lock screen?
Not with Apple's built-in widget; the lock screen gallery has no Screen Time option. Third-party apps can offer lock screen widgets, and finit ships one that puts the day's number under the clock.
Why is my screen time widget not updating?
iOS refreshes widgets on a budget, so short delays are normal. If a widget stays frozen, remove it and add it again to force a rebuild, and open the app once so it can hand the widget fresh data.
Does seeing the number actually help?
Keeping the number visible is the cheapest intervention there is: no blocking, no friction, just fewer surprises at the end of the week. It works best combined with an honest record, so the trend is real rather than remembered.
The number you see daily is the number you act on. Put the honest one where you'll see it.
